Fort Folly Habitat Recovery is seeking motivated candidates for summer student positions, commencing May 2nd, 2022. The positions are full-time (40 hours/week) and based out of FFHR’s headquarters in Dorchester, New Brunswick. However, a lot of time is spent completing fieldwork in various locations around the Petitcodiac watershed. Field activities include smolt monitoring and collection, snorkel and electrofishing surveys, fish net trap monitoring, Canadian Aquatic Biomonitoring Network (CABIN) sampling, temperature logger deployment and garbage clean-up in illegal dumpsites. Early mornings and long workdays are not uncommon. Additionally, fieldwork will be completed in a large range of weather conditions.

Requirements

  • Passion for field-based science
  • Enrolled in a science-based program
  • Driver’s licence
  • Physical capability to lift 20 kg
  • Flexible availability (weekend work is often expected during peak seasons of fieldwork)
  • Comfortable working in and around water
  • Positive attitude and willingness to get hands dirty
